Outdoors
A path beside the marsh, a paddle beneath the trees, a long view across the Bay of Fundy. The landscape changes quickly beyond the old streets, and there is more than one way to enjoy it.
Choose an outing to suit the day: a nearby walk, a few hours on a bicycle, or a full day for Kejimkujik or whale watching along Digby Neck.
Hiking & walking.
There are walks for a quiet hour and trails that call for a longer outing. Begin with the wetlands close to town, or drive to the Fundy shore for forest paths, sea air and a waterfall.
- French Basin TrailA gentle circuit around the marsh in Annapolis Royal, with places to stop and watch the birds.
- Delaps Cove Wilderness TrailThe 2.2 km Bohaker loop leads through the woods to a waterfall and views of the Bay of Fundy.
- KejimkujikMake a day of woodland and riverside trails at the inland national park.
Check current trail access and conditions. At Delaps Cove, stay on the marked routes and take care around uneven ground and coastal edges.
Canoeing.
At Kejimkujik, a paddle along the Mersey River offers a different way into the woods. Start at Jake’s Landing and choose a route to suit your experience, the weather and the water conditions.
Whynot Adventure, The Keji Outfitters, provides equipment rentals and guided outings. A guided river trip is a good place to begin if you would like someone else to lead the way.

Reserve equipment or a guide ahead of your visit. Allow a day for the drive, time on the water and an unhurried return.
Cycling.
The Harvest Moon Trailway connects Annapolis Royal and Grand-Pré along 110 kilometres of former railway. Choose a local out-and-back ride and turn around whenever it suits you; there is no need to make it a distance challenge.
A hybrid or mountain bike suits the trail’s surfaces. Sections are shared with other users, including motorised vehicles in parts of the valley, so check the route and current conditions before setting out.

Whale watching.
Follow Digby Neck towards East Ferry for a day on the Bay of Fundy. Petit Passage Whale Watch sails from East Ferry, so this departure does not require an island ferry crossing.
The operator lists cruises of about three to four hours. Set aside a full day from Annapolis Royal, with time for the drive, check-in and a stop along the way.
Petit Passage Whale WatchBook directly with the operator and confirm the departure point and time. Sailings depend on sea conditions; take warm layers for time on the water.
Back in time
for dinner.
Return to Annapolis Royal, leave the car and take a short walk along the waterfront to dinner. A full day outside pairs well with an easy evening in town.
