Traditional Charm

Princess Louise's Room
The bright Princess Louise room has a seafront view and is beautifully appointed with golden walls accentuated by dark rich wood furnishings including a Stearns & Foster queen-sized sleigh bed. The furniture in the room are genuine 17th and 18th century antiques. The room honours HRH Prince Louise of the United Kingdom, after whom, the Province of Alberta is named. Princess Louise would have visited in 1880, but was badly hurt in a sleigh accident that year and had to cancel most of her public engagements. Fortunately, we were still able to host her husband, the Duke of Argyll.
The principle painting in Prince’s Louise’s room is an 1892 portrait by Rudolf Swoboda, one of Queen Victoria’s favourite artists. Swoboda's most famous subject was Abdul Karim whose story was told in the 2017 film Victoria and Abdul. Princess Louise would have known Swoboda’s work well as her childhood home, Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, has dozens of his works on display as part of the Royal Collection.
A hearty breakfast in the Georgian dining room is included with your stay.
